Steven Butler

What books did you read when you were a child?
I loved reading Roald Dahl and Robin Jarvis as a boy. I have a slightly violent sense of humour, and both Dahl and Jarvis packed just the right punch with a mix of funny and scary.

If you could be a storybook character who would you be?
I’d like to be Peter Pan. I’ve always wanted to fly.

What is the best thing about reading?
The escapism, of course. Reading a book is the fastest way to get out of the classroom and into a terrific adventure.

What is your all-time favourite book?
It would have to be Roald Dahl’s The BFG. It’s a classic for a billion good reasons, and it ticks all of my boxes. It’s hilarious, and heartwarming, and blood-chillingly scary all at once.

Steven Butler is an actor, dancer and trained circus performer, and has been a fan of The Beano since childhood. The Diary of Dennis the Menace: The Great Escape by Steven Butler is out now.
