Patrick Ryan is a storyteller, writer and teacher from Illinois who has lived most of his life in Britain and Ireland and who travels all over the world telling stories and teaching people to tell stories.
Q: If you could be a storybook character, who would you be?
A: I suppose Jack, from the Jack stories (Jack & the Beanstalk, Jack the Giant Killer, Lazy Jack, Jack & the 3 Wishes, Jack & Jill, etc.) Sometimes clever, sometimes silly, sometimes lazy, travelling a lot, learning lots, liking good stories and riddles, playing games instead of working, often poor and looking for work (or a fortune), trying to do the right thing, trying to help, trying to be brave especially around giants, often falling down hills.
Q: If you could invite any author to tea, who would it be and why?
A: Roald Dahl. Mainly to quiz him about when he was a fighter pilot in the RAF in WW2.
Q: What is the best thing about reading?
A: It inspired me to travel to a dozen different countries and meet amazing people. It opened up the world for me.
Q: And finally…tell us about your Monster Read: what book would you most like to share with the world?
A: Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. It's set in the hills where I like to run. Full of mad, bad and bizarre characters.
