What books did you read when you were a child?
Not much. Mostly comics sadly. I learnt to love reading much more when I grew up. I was a slow reader.

If you could be a storybook character who would you be?
Elzeard Bouffier who was the old shepherd in Jean Giono The Man Who Planted Trees.

What is the best thing about reading?
To lose yourself in other worlds, in the lives of others.

What is your all-time favourite book?
The Yelling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings

Other than reading books what is the most important thing a parent can do to help develop their children’s communication skills?
Talk to them and listen.

How big a part did your parents play in encouraging your writing skills?
Very little. But my mother taught me a love of reading.

How do you encourage your children or grandchildren to read, what books do you enjoy reading with them?
By being an author, by having books around the place, and by telling them what books I like.
