Q: If you could be a storybook character, who would you be?
A: I'd quite like to be Sam Gribley from Jean Craighead George's My Side Of The Mountain. It's about a boy who runs away to fend for himself in the mountains when he understands that his family is just too poor to support him. His brave, practical nature and a little book on how to survive in the wild gets him through - along with Frightful, a trained peregrine falcon who hunts for Sam and is his companion.
Q: If you could invite any author to tea, who would it be and why?
A:If I could raise the dead, it would have to be Douglas Adams who wrote The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy and introduced the teenage me to such amazing notions as Babelfish, the Infinite Improbability Drive and an SEP (Somebody Else's Problem) Field. He definitely influenced my writing style and I'm certain he would be excellent company.
Q: 3. What is the best thing about reading?
A:The complete escape. A good book just sucks you out of your world and into someone else's. You can live a thousand other lives through books - and you can do it all FREE if you join a library. How brilliant is that?!
Q: And finally…tell us about your Monster Read: what book would you most like to share with the world?
A: TRASH by Andy Mulligan. I get all passionate about it in a little video on the Making Waves Monster Read website. It's about three boys who work the giant trash heaps in Mumbai to scrape a living. It's thrilling, intriguing, enlightening and absolutely took me, heart and soul, into that other world.
